ZAGREB, 28. NOV. 2016 – Russian Ambassador to Croatia Anvar Azimov expressed his concern with the future of Zagreb-Moscow relations, confirming that a Russia-Croatia business forum had been called off. “Russian businesspeople disagree with the sanctions. They oppose the fact that Zagreb backs the sanctions. That is why Russian businesspeople were not interested in coming to Croatia,” Ambassador Azimov told regional N1 TV, commenting on the business forum. Azimov further said he loved and respected Croatia, adding that Russia “will not forget that for more than 50 years, Russia and the Soviet Union were among the major players in Yugoslavia.” “I am deeply concerned with the future of Croatia-Russia relations… It is no secret that bilateral trade has nearly halved. It is a catastrophe,” the Russian ambassador noted. Azimov also said that the goal was to overcome the crisis in Croatia-Russia ties so that no political factor could have any impact on relations. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry criticized Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic for his statement in Kiev that Zagreb could provide its experiencence to Ukraine’s authorities in the peaceful reintegration of occupied regions.
